Dear Parents: Like the famous American author Mark Twain once said, “It’s spring fever. . .you don’t know what it is you DO want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” With the coming of Spring, comes spring fever for the students of Wheeless Road and a longing for the vacations and excitements that spring break and summer soon will bring. But with the coming of spring, these are also important and critical times in our academic lives as well and we have to stay on track in these last days of this school year. In mid-March we had our ITBS testing, and in mid-April we will have our CRCT testing. It is critical that we maintain our focus and stay on task until these important benchmarks are met. As warm weather approaches, we will shed our heavy coats and bring out our summer attire. Let us welcome the easy going spirit that Spring puts in our hearts as high spirits and new found energies are redirected into our academics. Let’s end the school year with momentum that will make your parents proud. Do your very best from this point on! Study hard, pay attention in class, be kind to your classmates, and be on time in the mornings to school. Let’s make ourselves, our parents, and Wheeless Road proud with EXCELLENT CRCT scores and passing grades! Let’s look back on the 2007-2008 school year with fond memories and inspiration that we can meet any goal or challenge! Thanks, Mr. Joe Moore Principal
2008-2009 Wheeless Road Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Suzanne Swann who is our 2008-2009 teacher of the year. Ms. Swann graduated from the University of Georgia with an ABJ in Public Relations and then received her teaching certificate from Augusta State University. She has taught at Wheeless Road for 14 years in both the second and fourth grades. She is currently the grade chairman for the fourth grade and the Science Department Teacher in Residence. This year she received the Target Grant, the SRS Teaching in Excellence Mini-Grant, and a DonorsChoose Grant.
From the Reading First Literacy Corner Thanks so much for your continued support as we reach higher heights in reading. Progress monitoring data indicates that we are headed toward another successful year. Continue to keep our kids on track by reading each night. Also, all students in 1st-3rd grades are encouraged to use Ticket to Read. It is an excellent resource for improving comprehension. Remember as Dr. Seuss once said, "The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more place you'll go."

Smart Savings Join the community bankers at Georgia Bank & Trust as they teach Wheeless Road students the value of saving money. Each week, a Georgia Bank & Trust banker will come to Wheeless Road Elementary and accept deposits in the students' very own savings accounts. In addition, the Bank will supply a small piggy bank for the student to take home and keep his/her money in until the designated "deposit day" at school. Any questions, can be directed to Dr. Jones at Wheeless Road Elementary. Thanks Georgia Bank & Trust for giving Wheeless Road students this wonderful opportunity.
